Iron Curtain - How To Use The Ultimate Divider

Curtains come in different styles, colors and cuts. You could even customize them in order to have that perfect satisfaction. There is another important element of curtains that would make them the most attractive. That is the material used. There are loads of options to choose from. The choice you have to pick must be the finest in quality. And, that has to be Iron Curtain.

What made Winston Churchill phrase the term the "Iron Curtain" when describing the relationship of the Asian continent? What is the "Iron Curtain"? These are a few questions that often get asked when the term "Iron Curtain" is discussed either in public or in the privacy of your own home. The history involved with the term is actually quite interesting and has been around for nearly two centuries.

The iron curtain was a term first recorded in 1819. At that time, the definition of iron curtain was an impenetrable barrier. The Soviet Union's sphere of influence was being associated with this popular term in the 1920s; even the coined the phrase during World War II. However, in Fulton, Missouri at Westminster College, Prime Minister Winston Churchill brought the term into the spotlight when he used the Iron Curtain to describe the difference between eastern and western Europe. This speech was the "Sinews of Peace" speech, but has gone down in history as the Iron Curtain speech.

This speech was thought to be unnecessary at the time. People saw Churchill as being antagonistic and harsh. Most of the world still saw the Soviet Union as the ally it was during World War II. However, due to this speech, the East started perceiving the Soviet Union with more caution and the Soviet Union started to see the rest of the world as an enemy to be guarded against. The Cold War had begun. The Iron Curtain was used to keep people in the Soviet Union and to keep information out.

This Iron Curtain was not just an imaginary border. Many sections of Europe had literal borders and fences that represented the illusionary border set forth by Churchill. These borders were often enforced by gunfire and death for any who dared to enter or leave the Eastern side of this Iron Curtain.

One such border that was infamous around the world was the Berlin Wall. Another infamous border was the border between Austria and Hungary. No matter where the barrier was located, it was always a distance into the eastern side to avoid any border disputes by the western. The Iron Curtain had completely divided Europe by an imaginary border as well as some parts having a physical border.

The Cold War was not to last. The Berlin Wall fell on the historic November 11, 1989 and this was followed quickly by the collapse of various eastern powers. Another historic date was December 25, 1991. The Soviet Union dissolved and replaced by the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). This was not without its problems though. The Soviet Union has stockpiled nuclear weapons; now, there was no safe place to store these weapons. The Cold War may indeed by over, but we will feel the repercussions of the Cold War for generations to come.

The Iron Curtain fell along with the Cold War. Even the physical boundaries have vanished. Europe is working towards unity and a closer world relationship. It is obvious that the world has been made a better place by the simple curtain that had separated its people - whether that curtain by physical or imaginary.

A nice added touch. Lace curtains are generally made from cotton, polyester, or some type of blend. Very few of today's curtains will be 100% cotton but if that's what you want you can find them with just a little more hunting. Polyester is actually a great choice. Especially modern day po...
